Pedro de la Rosa says Hispania Racing Team going to improve in 2012 – Formula 1 news
Pedro de la Rosa says that Hispania Racing Team are targeting a much improved display in 2012.
HRT have had a horrid season and remained at the bottom of the table. De la Rosa though believes that with each race the team will try to improve learning and tweaking all the way through the season to get a respectable result.
De la Rosa joined HRT after leaving McLaren where he was hired as a reserve driver. He said that he understands that his stint with HRT has so far remained fruitless but that he wants to change that. He said that the changes within the team has hindered
the team but that it is working towards settling in and the progress so far is showing good promise.
HRT relocated to Spain and changed their team principal as Colin Kolles resigned and made way for Luis-Perez Sala.
“Our realistic goal is to improve, first of all,” de la Rosa said. “Improve race by race. What we need to make clear is that victories for us is not winning a race, but simply improve in every race. And for that we need to be the best new team to be in the
top ten [in the championship].”
He added, “It's a very ambitious target and it will be very, very hard because there are teams like Caterham who have a clear advantage over us. But we are here to set goals for ourselves and to fight for them. But the important thing, on the short term,
is to grow up in an organised way and that will make the car faster race by race.”
HRT have still got to name a driver to partner de la Rosa for the 2012 season. Tonio Liuzzi is still under contract with the team but has not been confirmed. Liuzzi earlier showed his dissent over the influence of pay drivers in the sport. He believes that
is the only thing that is causing the delay for his confirmation with the team for the 2012 season.
The season will begin on March 18, 2012 which will feature six world champions on the grid for the first time in the history of the sport barring any injuries or other issues prevent from any of the drivers from taking part in the season.
