Pedro de la Rosa says he had a good time with Sauber in Canadian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren reserve driver Pedro de la Rosa has admitted that he had a very good time with Sauber in the recently held 2011 Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix.
De la Rosa was thankful to the Sauber team, as he claimed that they provided him a chance to drive with them on the race day.
After a successful race with the team, he told the media, “I had a blast and I'm going home with an amazing experience in my bag and I'm now more useful as McLaren's reserve driver, being accustomed to a current car.”
Sergio Perez of Sauber completed the Friday morning practice session with the team but complained of dizziness for the afternoon session. Sauber then hurried to McLaren just 10 minutes before the start of FP2 and asked if they could have de le Rosa for the
weekend. McLaren accepted their request and de la Rosa was asked to get ready for the Sauber team.
Since de la Rosa only had a few minutes before the FP2, he could not impress in the session. He also participated for Sauber in FP3 and qualifiers on Saturday before featuring as the race driver for the team on Sunday.
After the race, Rosa added that although he did not score points for the team, he will always remember the 2011 Canadian Grand Prix with Sauber.
The Spaniard had a trouble free run in Montreal and finished the race in the 12th spot for Sauber.
Apart from that, the team boss Peter Sauber has said that he was disappointed with Kamui Kobayashi’s seventh place finish in Canada, as he was expecting him to finish on the podium.
Sauber went on to add, “The truth is we knew we had no chance against Red Bull, McLaren and Ferrari because we lack top speed. But as a private team we can be proud of our season.”
He further added that Kobayashi had the best chance to get a podium position, because after a long red flag due to the rain, he restarted the race from the second position on the grid.
