Pedro de la Rosa still unsure of Sauber seat for upcoming European Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Recent reports have revealed that McLaren reserve driver, Pedro de la Rosa said that he is still unsure of his Sauber seat for the upcoming European Grand Prix, which will take place on June 26, 2011 at the Valencia Street Circuit.
The Spaniard was called up just ten minutes before the second practice session in the recently held Canadian Grand Prix, when Sauber driver Sergio Perez felt not good enough to continue his run after the morning practice session.
De la Rosa took part in afternoon practice session at the Montreal race track, where he made good progress for the team in place of Perez. He successfully finished his qualifying round and started the Canadian race at the 17th place on the grid.
McLaren’s reserve driver had a trouble-free race and he showed a good performance for the team. He could not score points for Sauber but ended up at the 12th place.
After the race weekend, he added that he is quite happy, as he got a chance from Sauber to race for the first time in Formula 1. In addition, he said that it was one of the best moments for him in his career.
De la Rosa admitted that he really enjoyed the Montreal race weekend with the team.
He mentioned, “I am being constantly asked if I’m going to race in this (European) grand prix, and actually I don’t have the faintest idea. I would like to clarify that I am McLaren’s reserve driver and indebted to them before any other team.”
McLaren’s reserve driver discussed about Perez and added, “Whatever happens depends on if McLaren lets me, and actually I don’t want to speculate as I find it a lack of respect for Sergio Perez, who has said he is perfectly well.”
On the other hand, Sauber managing director Monisha Kaltenborn has informed the media that if Perez is unable to race in Valencia, then Rosa will have to join the team again for the race weekend.
Recently, the Mexican announced that he is perfectly well for the European Grand Prix after his crash during the Monaco Grand Prix’s qualifying round.
