Peeping into the tales of 2010 F1 season…
The 2010 season has been a strange one. With such a tough battle all through the season and so much off and on track drama, there has not been a single week when thrill and action lost its apex. After such an exciting season, many stories of success and
failure have taken birth. Some of the most exciting tales of last year are as follows.
All but happy- Red Bull Racing
The team which was fast at the start of the season, became faster with the passing races and by mid-season, it was the fastest on the track. The team’s RB6 was surely a masterpiece designed by Adrian Newey, the team’s chief designer. All through the year,
both the other rival teams McLaren and Ferrari kept striving behind the swiftest car on the track and in many races, no one was able to chase Red Bull. The 2008 world champ and the McLaren driver, Lewis Hamilton even proclaimed at several occasions that they
have the third fastest car of the season while Ferrari was the second after Red Bull.
Last year, the Brawn GP team bagged both the drivers’ as well as the constructors’ championship and this year, another relatively new team has defeated the legendary names like Ferrari and McLaren. In only six years’ time, Red Bull, which was famous for
being a group of non-serious party boys raised to the repute of being the leaders of both the charts.
Adrian Newey
In 2009, Red Bull’s RB5 was thought to be the fastest car on the track but the team was not able to lay hands on any of the championships. This year Newey came back even stronger on the track and proved he is undoubtedly the foremost designer of Formula
One. Fingers kept pointing over the Newey designed car all through the season, suspecting that his car is breaching the technical laws of FIA. In frustration for not being able to beat the RB6, all rivals kept accusing the team especially for its front wing.
It gave the car the incredible pace but was suspected to have more flexibility than allowed as per the regulations. However, nothing wrong was proved and eventually the team came out clear and of course the winner.
Sebastian Vettel
At the age of 23-years and nine months, the driver made his record of being the youngest World Champion ever in the history of the sport. Until this November, the record was held by Hamilton, who won the 2008 world Championship and broke Fernando Alonso’s
record of being the youngest title winner.
This year Vettel not only fought against four tough contenders but also against a lot of hard luck and misfortune. All through the year the Red Bull driver was either hit hard by technical issues with his car as in Bahrain, Australia and Korea or committed
poor mistakes as in Turkey and Belgium. However, all ended well. Despite all the ills and odds, the German won the championship, leaving four tougher and more experienced racers behind.
Fernando Alonso
Alonso was not convinced when he said right after the last race of the season that he is satisfied with the way the 2010 season has turned out for him. However, many competitors in the sport were still convinced by him.
After the two consecutive wins of Alonso in 2005 and 2006, the driver was not able to come back to the top. In 2007, after a very close battle between the rookie of the season, Lewis Hamilton and Alonso, the title surprisingly went to Kimi Raikkonen. The
very next season, Hamilton bagged the championship and broke Alonso’ record of being the youngest racer of the season.
