Peetu Piiroinen dominates 6Star Nike 6.0 Air & Style
The 6Star Nike 6.0 Air & Style came to an end this Saturday in Munich, Germany. After a series of wonderful performances by some of the world’s most talented snowboarders, it was the World No. 1, Peetu Piiroinen, who outperformed his competitors to take
home the win, a large slice of the 75,000 Euros prize purse, the coveted “Air & Style Ring of Glory”, and most importantly, the 1000 Swatch TTR World Ranking points. Seppe Smits finished second and moved up to the second place in the World Ranking after earning
a significant amount of TTR points. Halldor Helgason came in third.
The Nike 6.0 Air & Style had kicked off from the 10th of February and reached the finale two days later on the 12th. Over 16,500 spectators attended the finale that was carried out in the Olympic Stadium in Munich. With 16 of the worlds’ top snowboarders
competing against each other, a night of pure sensational and thrill was expected. It was certain that the competitors would give their all to take the 1000 TTR Ranking points’ home, especially with the season at such a crucial stage. With a huge straight
jump followed by a staircase that featured four different rail options, the stage was set for the riders to impress the judges with their magic in the air and on the rail.
The riders met in a unique head-to-head tournament style format. After each round the number of competitors was cut to half till the final four were left. These final four was comprised of the Peetu Piiroinen from Finland, Seppe Smits from Belgium, Halldor
Helgason from Iceland and the Swedish Nils Arvidsson. The super final turned out to be an impressive battle as anticipated, with the final four throwing down amazing tricks, determined to take home the victory.
In the end it was the World No.1 from Finland, Peetu Piiroinen, who bagged the win and continued to assert his dominance in the world of freestyle. He accomplished the feat after throwing down a Cab 1260 on the big air jump and a front blunt 270 out on the
rail section. He was extremely happy about his triumph saying, "This Air & Style was so good to me. I did all three Air & Styles this year and got fifth in Beijing and second in Innsbruck, now first here, so I got better step by step. It feels amazing. And,
when I think about the TTR ranking I for sure want to finish in the top three." After winning the 1000 Ranking points in this event, Peetu has further strengthened his lead in the Swatch TTR World Tour and closer than ever to his third consecutive Champion
title.
Finishing in second place on Saturday night was Seppe Smits from Belgium. He showed a lot of determination through the tournament and eventually found his way into the last stage. His best score came after he executed his own innovative variation of the
Cab 1260 combined with a frontside noseslide. Coming second in the 6.0 event gave him enough points to rise up to the second place in the TTR world ranking.
Iceland’s Halldor managed to land on the podium after giving his all in the contest. Unfortunately for him, he was undoubtedly against the best, which made him miss out on the chance to boast a victory.
Now that the Nike 6.0 Air & Style is a wrap, all the eyes will now shift to The Oakley Artic Challenge which is set to begin on the 14th of this month. It is the last 6Star event before the grand finale of the Swatch TTR World Tour, the 6Star Burton US Open,
where the men and women Champion will be crowned next month.
