Pegs Slipping!!!?

The peg on my violin (a string) keeps slipping as soon as i get it at the right pitch.....it's very aggravating!!!! i heard chalk is good but i don't have any....is there anything else i can do???

  1. If it's made of wood, try slightly increasing the humidity you store your violin at. Low humidity causes the holes to enlarge because the woods shrinks a bit, which means the pegs get loose more easily.


  2. My A string peg on my violin does this also. I went to my local instrument supply store and bought a tube of stuff called Peg Dope... It was basically black chalk. That was the only thing that worked. When I couldn't use that I would just try to press the peg inward as I turned the peg to tune. Its very aggravating but those are the only 2 options I know of...

  3. yeah the peg dope works really well. my teacher had to put some on my D string peg (i dont own any of it =] ) and your string is probably slipping because of weather changes. hope i helped!!
