Pei Tianyi and Ou Dongni storm into Mixed Doubles final of Badminton Asia Youth U-19 Championships
China’s young shuttlers, Pei Tianyi and Ou Dongni booked their place in the Mixed Doubles final after crushing Indonesia’s Jor Praveen and Nuraidah Tiara Rosalia in the semi-final of the Badminton Asia Youth U-19 Championships 2011, in India, on Friday,
July 8.
Tianyi and Dongni proved their worth against the Indonesian couple by winning the match in straight games. The Chinese shuttlers took only 30 minutes to chuck out the Indonesian duo in remarkable fashion to penetrate into the final of the event.
In the first game, the Chinese duo opened their campaign against the Indonesians in a striking manner, as they wasted no time in building a good lead of 8-4 in the opening set. Praveen and Nuraidah were struggling to break the momentum of their opponents,
who were dominating the game at the net. Until the interval, the Chinese couple reached at a comfortable stage of 11-6.
After the break, Praveen and Nuraidah tried to catch up with the speed of their challengers, but failed to dominate the rallies at the net. The control of the Chinese couple was incredible as they missed no chance of executing net killings throughout the
entire set. Tianyi and Dongni bagged the first game by a margin of 21-14, in just 12 minutes.
However, the Indonesians put up a strong fight in the second game, where both sides were playing at the same level by maintaining a good speed. The score progressed without any side having a clear advantage, as both duos were playing flawless badminton.
In the concluding part of the second set, both pairs were close until the score reached 21-21. At this crucial stage, the Chinese duo worked harder and scored two points in a row to win the set by a margin of 23-21, in 17 minutes. The straight-set battle
ended in just 30 minutes, with the score of 21-14 and 23-21.
In the final showdown, Tianyi and Dongni will be up against Indonesia’s Nugroho Lukhi Apri and Amelia Ririn, who defeated China’s Chen Zhuofu and Xiong Rui, in the semi-final of the event.
