how do you get the roof shingles onto the roof around the apex? as you are not supposed to climb on the roof but the apex is far too far away from the edge to reach otherwise? how has anyone else done it?

  1. get a roof ladder

  2. after building this model i had the same problem! i rung finnforest who said that you are able to put some weight on the roof as long as the ridge beams are screwed in properly. however try to avoid putting pressure on the tongue and groove joints

  3. Nonsense, who said not to get on the roof.  I have done hundreds of roofing jobs and I say get a good pair of knee pads and "get-er-done"!  If the roof is at such a pitch that it is impossible to work comfortably without the risk of falling off, then either use temporary strips of wood (cleats) nailed down for a foothold, or tie off over the apex (recommended) with your approved workbelt rig.  If money is no object, then you can rent scaffolding to do the job  without touching the roof.

  4. Ding Dong! I just fitted some.

Of course you can climb on the roof, as long as it's not a blazing hot day. Best to use some kind of kneeling mat, and try to not fall off.

The best bet for the apex is to use an apex cap, which is a rubber based self-adhesive roll to match the shingles. If you're in the UK, Wickes sell it.
