Question:

Pekin Duck information?

by  |  earlier

I am soon building a setup for a Pekin Duck that I will be ordering soon. the problem is, I can find NO info about them. It will be getting it's own pond, a shelter, etc.- in a fenced in area so cats won't get it. Do they make good pets? I LOVE birds and I won't be irresponsible. I'm trying to find as much info about them before I get way into it. Is there any websites about Pekin duck care? Thanks!

  1. pekin's are really big ducks, they can get up to like 5- 10 lbs. My parents own a lot of ducks, from little bitty ones to really huge one, i think they are messy and you have to keep  there pens cleans which is really hard, you also need to make sure the cage you use has chicken wire or something small around it so other animals can't get in it. ducks make better pets if you gets them when they are little ducklings so you can get them use to you, if you play with them everyday they will make great pets, i use to have a Canadian goose that would follow me everywhere, even when he got older he always had to see what me and parents were doing they are great oets

Here are some websites that may help.

I advise you to make sure that in their shelter to have a door with a strong lock on it.

And cover and windows, openings with 2 layers of chicken wire.

We had a problem with some sneaky raccoons with some mallards a few years back.

They are messy, so you are going to have to do a lot of cleaning.

And its best to get more then one duck.

Ducks do A LOT better off in groups of 2 or more.

    GOOD LUCK!!!
