Question:

Pekin ducks fighting and other questions?

I have two Pekin ducks that are a little over a year old. I got them when they were a few days old so they were raised together. I believe they are both males. They used to have the curled tail feather, but that seems to have disapeared? They used to be in a pen together, but then I noticed that one of them had a bunch of feathers pulled out along his back from my other guy beating him up. So they are now in two different pens. Is that normal? I hate having them apart, but I dont want them getting hurt either.

My other question is I live in new england, and last winter, my ducks lived down at the barn where I keep my horses. It was an old cow barn, so they were fully sheltered from the weather. I am now getting my back yard fenced in, and once it is completed, I will be bringing the ducks home. I have a chainlink dog kennel that they will be in when I wont be in the yard with them.

  1. i used to have the biggest duck i have ever seen in my life.

it was the size of a goose, in no way exaggerated.

it was a freak of nature, no matter how cute it was.

this massive duck attacked our male and female ducks, he pulled some of their feathers out, and just attacked them.

the biggest duck, or the duck thats been there the longest is King, top of all the ducks, and thats normal.

  2. It sounds like normal duck behavior. I had three males, all raised from eggs together, and they got along wonderfully for 2 years and then two of them started attacking the other. That's ducks for you.

And they'll probably be warm enough with that set up. And if they aren't, they'll let you know.
