Pekka Rinne blocks 39 as Nashville Predators outperform Washington Capitals 3-1 -NHL Match Update
Both teams failed on all of their shooting attempts during the first 40 minutes of game play but as Pekka Rinne kept on saving for Nashville, the Predators got three straight through Tomas Vokoun and took the match from the Washington Capitals, 3-1, Tuesday
night, November 15, 2011, at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee, United States.
After losing their second straight contest, Washington fell down to the third number spot in the Eastern Conference with 21 points, below the Buffalo Sabres with 22 and Pittsburgh Penguins with 25.
Washington outshot the Predators, 40-30, but Pekka Rinne remained focused and fell short on only one single attempt.
"This is a tough one to take", Washington coach, Bruce Boudreau, said. "I thought for 56 minutes we played as good as we could play. We scored the goal and in the last two periods we totally, I thought, dominated, and then we scored the goal to take the
lead and we stopped playing".
Nashville failed to capitalise on two power play opportunities in the first two periods while Washington did not make a single goal on over six minutes of having an added man on the ice.
It looked as if the tables were turning in favour of Washington when Troy Brouwer scored the first of the night with less than five minutes remaining until the final buzzer sounded but as Vokoun got a little too comfortable, Martin Erat brought Nashville
right back up in the next 30 seconds while Colin Wilson and Shea Weber scored two straight in the last 25 seconds to secure the contest.
"And (Nashville) didn't stop playing. That's why you have to play to the whistle. Just looking at the replay, guys were putting up their hands and they stopped skating and (Nashville) kept coming and that's why it looked so easy", Boudreau.
Washington Capitals will be heading to Winnipeg for their matchup on Thursday against the Jets for their second road trip matchup of a total of three games away, with the last being against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday before returning home.
Nashville has the next home game against the Maple Leafs on Thursday.
