Does anyone know how the pell grant thing works? I heard I can get a Grant for College but I've read that it's only something like $4000 USDs and thats probably enough to cover 1 semester in a semi-good college. Can you only get 1 Grant for 1 Semester or do they grant you each semester?

  1. The max amount of Pell for the 2008-2009 is 4731 a year if you attend full time.  This will pay for the fall AND spring tuiton for most in-state schools..... certainly at a community college where tution is usually less than 2,400 a year.

The $4,731 is for the year, if you qualify you would get half in the fall and half in the spring.

Read this book.  It will help.

  2. The pell grant given you about $5000 a year; schools usually split this in half and give you one half of the grant each semester. When you fill out your FAFSA, if you qualify for this grant you may qualify for others...good luck, and I hope this helps :)

  3. Pell Grants are need based and the maximum per school year you can receive is $4731 (so whatever amount you are granted, they would split it between both fall and spring semesters).

In order to be eligible for any federal financial aid, grants and/or loans, you'll have to fill out a FAFSA form (fafsa.ed.gov). Once you submit that, your school will be able to send you a financial aid package and let you know how much grant money (if any) you qualify for.

    Good luck!
