Malaga boss, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Manuel-c23383 Pellegrini, has admitted that the draw with Eibar on Tuesday was a fair result for both sides, albeit the condition of the pitch played its part.
A last-minute strike by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Oguchi-Onyewu-c28332 salvaged a point against the Segunda Division outfit, Eibar, in the last-16 of the Copa del Rey.
Pellegrini complained about the condition of the pitch after the match. He said it was challenging for them to play on the ground.
“The game was played on a pitch that made it very difficult to play football.”
The Chilean mentioned the fact that his side created many chances to win the game, but at the end he was convinced the share of spoils with Eibar was a fair result for both teams.
“We had chances from set-pieces to score and so did they and for me the draw was a fair result.”
The former Real Madrid boss admitted their hosts gave them a tough time. He also talked about the role of the pitch and how it prevented them to take advantage of their technical superiority. Regardless he is content with the positives shown by his players.
“We found Eibar very tough and the pitch prevented us from demonstrating our technical quality, so I value the positives that my team produced.”
Moreover, Pellegrini remarked on the Segunda Division outfit and how they knew beforehand that Eibar are a highly motivated team that cannot be taken lightly. He said they are as motivated as we are to go through to next stage of the competition.
“But with this as a draw, the tie is still open. We knew this team and that we would find a very motivated opponent very focused on the things they had to do and who were looking to get to the next round, just as we are.”
Malaga are currently occupying the much coveted fourth spot in the Primera Division with 28 points from their opening 16 fixtures.
Next match in La Liga, the Andalusians will have a tough task on their hands.
On this Sunday they will encounter the defending champions, Real Madrid, at the Rosaleda stadium.
