Under the tautology of Manuel Pellegrini, Malaga registered back to back highest league positions in the history of the coastal club. The 2010/11 season was the team manage 11th place and followed it up with a 4th place finish, earning
qualification to UEFA Champions League for the first time.
The Andalusian club have overachieved thanks to the financial muscle provided by the Qatari owners. Pellegrini admitted at the start of their pre-season training that retaining their Champions League qualification heroics will not be easy.
However, events have taken a southern turn since then. With http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-c13609 Hierro leaving La Rosaleda citing differences with the club, and as many as four players asking for owed wages, has plunged the over-achievers.
Speculation about the rosy financial conditions of the club are started to affect the players, as acknowledged by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Manuel-c23383 Pellegrini.
The Chilean tactician commented that Malaga are currently trying to focus on their pre-season responsibilities, which is difficult for them at the moment, owing to the troubles surrounding them.
Nevertheless, the former Real Madrid manager remarked that they are calm and trying to devote their time to the task they left the Iberian Peninsula for.
Continuing on the topic, Pellegrini added that he is waiting their return to La Rosaleda to see the gravity of the situation, and is looking to stay as far away from it for the time being.
"We are focused on sporting matters, but when there are so many rumours it is obvious that the team is affected, especially considering we are not in Spain," he is quoted as saying by AS.
"But we are calm because we have been working very well. I will wait until we return to Spain to see which rumours are right and which rumours are not.”
"We are trying to distance ourselves from that subject, the truth is that until we know for sure what is going on, it is best not to say anything.”
"We will arrive in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 on Tuesday and then we will see what we find."
