all over the encounter.
With the win under their belts, Malaga continue their impressive run in the prestigious European club competition. The Andalusians enjoy pole position in their group with a perfect winning run against their rivals to boast off.
Victory over the Rossoneri allowed Malaguista to keep on dreaming in their first ever adventures in the Champions League. While their first two fixtures came against club’s of more or less similar stature, the hard fought victory over AC Milan shows they
are not intimidated by the big names.
Milan came prepared for battle and showed their instincts from the starting whistle in La Rosaleda. They made their priorities clear but were unable to defeat one of the latest fashionable teams from the Iberian Peninsula. Milan knew beforehand that in Malaga
is not only sun and sand, but got a footballing lesson about the team that plays well in their ‘modest’ surroundings.
Pellegrini’s men approached the game more cautiously than their previous European meetings, but had the same intention as ever. With minutes passing by, Malaga gradually found their game and began to show what they stand for.
Milan took the initiatives but the Spaniards gained ground, with Isco, Joaquin, Portillo and Saviola teasing their Italian’s defence. The hosts could have taken the lead as Gamez secured a penalty for him. Nevertheless, Malaga couldn’t take the lead as Joaquin
failed to deliver from 11 yards out.
However, the experienced campaigner compensated for his earlier mistake in the second period. Just after the hour mark, Joaquin completed a Malaga attack, giving them the lead that would prove to be too much for their Italian rivals to overcome.
