Despite their numerical disadvantage on the ground, the Spaniards managed to share the spoils with the Bundesliga champions. It was a memorable night for them as they battled in front of their home fans against the German giants.
Los Che boss couldn’t be more pleased with the result of the encounter and the bravery, resilience and determination his players displayed.
The only thing he regrets is that in the end, they just couldn’t grab the killer goal.
“It was a beautiful game on our part and a pity in the end that we didn't manage to win it.”
Looking back on the encounter, Pellegrino was more than happy with what he witnessed at the Mestalla.
“I saw a lot of quality in my team. We had the intelligence to try to look for various ways to break Bayern down."
The Argentine boss then turned his attention to Bayern and stated how the Germans changed their tactics and strategy for the encounter.
"They played with three attackers and are a side that are used to having the ball all the time.”
More than anything else, the 41-year-old is pleased that they are through to the knock-out stage. However, he stressed the importance of getting ready for the group’s last match with the French side, Lille.
"Obviously we will try to win the last match, but the important thing right now is that we are through. I am very satisfied.”
Finally, Pellegrino concluded his remarks on the exceptional display his side has pulled off against the Germans.
“My players gave everything and enjoyed a great night in a game that demanded maximum effort against a first-class rival."
Now that Los Che have secured their qualification to the second-round of the Champions League, it is believed they will try to pick up their form and get closer to their rivals in the Primera Division.
