  1. Pellet is the best because it's less of a mess and the features on these new pellet stoves are fantastic Thermostat controled and can even relight their selves.

I used a coventional wood burner for about 10 years and i would both haul and buy my own logs "about 17 pickup truck loads a year.

Now the wood takes up an aweful amount of space plus you have to rehandel the wood so much not to mention those smashed fingers once in awhile belive me it's just not worth it.

Go with the pellet stoves alot of my friends are useing them i had converted over to burn hard coal via a KeyStoker stove befor these new high tech pellet stoves came into being.

I'm saveing a ton of money on heating costs but coal is dirty plus when i lift a 5 gallon bucket of coal i am lifting 50lbs to dunp into the coal hopper and i best havea shop vac running to catch the dust from the coal that  am dumping into the hopper.

Hard coal is going for over $200.00 a ton delivered so take it from someone who knows"you best bet is a good "Pellet Stove"

I am plaining on buying a pellet stove myself in the near future.

    Good Luck

  2. Simply, wood is usually much less expensive, especially if you can cut it yourself, but requires more storage space, is messier and is a lot more work, is harder to maintain a fire all night, and it is harder to regulate the heat with wood.

  3. they both have their positives and negatives.

Wood stove has a nice heat output and if you own property with trees you have a renewable FREE source of fuel. If you keep your chimney and stove in proper working order it will be as safe as any other source of heat and last a long time.

Pellet stoves are much like wood just less hassle. You don't need to cut split or have a place to store lots of wood. You will need a place to store pellets but they take up much less space{compared to wood}. BUT you will be at the mercy of pellet prices. I have seen them go from 2.00 up to over 10.00 per bag depends on supply and demand. You'll also have to make sure you get a good quality pellet to get the best results from your stove.

  4. Wood is usually cheaper, but a lot more mess and hassle.

Today's pellet stoves are pretty efficient and easy to use, but the price of pellets goes up when supply goes down.

  6. I love our pellet stove.  We buy oak pellets as they burn hotter and longer than softwoods.  We pay about $3.50 for a 40 lb bag.  We have a place out here that delivers them by the pallet.  So we just buy one pallet a year.

Pellet stoves can have a big hopper to contain a whole bags worth of pellets and some models you can hook up to a thermostat.  We use ours to supliment our main house heater and we are on propane tanks, which is really expensive.  We have it hooked up to a thermostat, and it goes on in the morning just before we get up.

Wood pellets are much cleaner for the air and also leave behind much less ash to clean up.
