  2. Hi,

I currently have a brood of 30 fry with more on the way :-)  Current ones are about 3 weeks old and still on flake powder.  Even at 12 weeks i would have them on flake or live food like daphnia, brine shrimp or even small blood worms.  Pellets are a hit or miss.  I fed my last batch some pellet and 3 died within a couple of hours.  Very weird, but lesson learnt. Just stick with the norm flake and give them a weekly treat of live or frozen food and you should be okay after that :-)  The black spot could be the females, all females have a black spot where there a**s would be.  This is the easiest way to identify there s*x.  The black spot gets bigger when they are pregnant and can give you an indication of when they will drop.  Females can deposit up to 6 sperm banks, so in actual fact you could have no males in your tank for up to 5 months but they will keep getting pregnant every 23-25 days.  They can get pregnant from 4 weeks old.

    Hope this helps :-)

  3. I feed my guppies a wide variety of foods, including pellets and have never noticed any digestive problems with them.  Perhaps you got a bad batch of pellets?  If you think your fish are suffering from constipation, try feeding them the mashed insides of frozen or steamed or boiled green peas.  That will help them pass any blockages.
