Pelvis Ultrasound? I don't understand the directions that I am given..?

I am scheduled for a Obstetrical Level I / Pelvis ultrasound tomorrow, and I was given these instructions:

One hour prior to exam, empty bladder

Begin drinking 24oz. of clear liquid

So, do I drink the 24oz all in one go, after I empty my bladder prior to the exam? Or do I start drinking 24oz everyday, before emptying my bladder 1 hour prior to exam?

can someone explain? Thanks!

  1. Its best to empty your bladder before drinking the 24 oz of water. Try to drink the water right before you go, so you don't have to hold it as long.

  2. When I had my ultrasound I was instructed to drink lots of water about an hour before they performed the examination.  So it's probably like you said first, empty your bladder and then drink 24 oz of clear liquid prior to your exam.
