Pena Dorada, the highly likely victor for the Timeform Horses To Follow Extra Novices’ Handicap Chase at Kelso
Kelso will stage the Class 3 Timeform Horses To Follow Extra Novices’ Handicap Chase over two miles, six furlongs and 110 yards on Wednesday, 2nd May. Even though only four five-year and older thoroughbreds are taking part, the level of competition
is quite high due to the impressive profiles of all the entries.
Pena Dorada and Freddie Brown are fairly experienced at Kelso.
Pena Dorada, Key Of Luck’s five-year-old bay gelding out of mare, Uluwatu, has been active thrice during the new season while the last race was at Kelso and that too which got him the third position.
All the three starts were at three different race courses, today he will race at Kelso for a straight second time.
The five-year-old cracked into the season on 21st February in the Wetherbyracing.Co.UK Novices’ Chase at Wetherby over two miles and four and a half furlong. The race was dictated by Railway Dillon who was the mount for Jason Maguire and the two
led the runner up of the race, Pena Dorada, by sixteen lengths.
The 11/4 favourite of the race, Sherwani Wolf, broke a blood vessel and was consequently pulled up from the race.
His second venture of the season culminated into success as he won the Kay Care Services Beginners’ Chase on 15th March at Hexham over two miles and half a furlong. The 11/10 favourite winner of the race, Pena Dorada, led the track by 2 ¼ lengths
while riding with Campbell Gillies.
Signalman was the runner up of the race while Ruff Diamond finished third in line behind the winner.
His very first exposure to Kelso during the new season was in the Virtuo Wealth Management Ltd Novices’ Chase on 2nd April over three miles and a furlong.
Pena Dorada finished right after the 11/8 favourite runner up of the race, Bob ‘N’ You, while the race was won by Inverlochy Lad who had Denis O’Regan onboard.
Pena Dorada’s only try at Kelso during the previous season was in the Timeform Race Passes Handicap Chase over two miles and a furlong. He settled as the runner up behind the winner, Primrose Time.
Striking a second score during the previous season and finishing third on 2nd April, 2012 displays his potential for finally claiming a race at Kelso.
