Question:

Penalty for driving a motorcycle with only a car drivers license in MD?

I have a car drivers license and last week I took the Motorcycle Safety Course. I took the test and failed the test by 1 point because the bike stalled in the figure 8 and I put my foot on the ground. Now, I have a bike and it's registered and insured, and I REALLY would like to practice before I retake the test again, but I was wondering what would happen if I drive the bike over to the nearest parking lot by me and if, on the way, I got pulled over without a motorcycle license. I'm not trying to drive on the highway or anything, I just really want to practice and the only way I can get it over to a parking lot is if I drive it. Thanks!

  1. In WV you can legally ride during daylight hours after passing the written test at the DMV. Is MD different? Ha, I answered your question with a question.

  2. Congratulations on taking the Motorcycle safety class - that shows a lot of brains.

If you get stopped without a licensed rider supervising you, your driver's license could be suspended and your bike might be impounded.  I DON'T recommend it.

Riding on side streets is actually MUCH more dangerous than a highway.  Most motorcyclists are killed in intersection accidents when a car turns left across your path.

  3. Go to your DMV and ask them if they have a parking lot where you can practice.

BUT the best thing is to retake the MSC and hope that your bike doesn't stall. Lol.

I think you'll do fine if you take the course again. Seriously. You'll know more than the rest.

P.S: I want to thank you for legally trying to ride a motorcycle. I wish EVERYONE that rides would have the balls to take the class and learn how to ride the right way.

  4. You will get in trouble , you have to have a bikers license.  Just simply have another person with a bikers license take you over there then let you practice while they are there.
