Penalty points question?

a work colleage of my mothers crashed his rental car two days ago. from what i have been told he was over the limit and will loose his licence for 3 years from the 30th october this year. he is allowed to keep it until then because of workcommitments.

the thing is that because i'm not able to drive at the moment due to pregnancy and my car is just parked up, i have been asked by my mother if he could borrow my car for 4 weeks as he has no transport to and from work.

however, my questions are:

1) how many penalty points does he have now?

2) how much extra would it cost me to put him on my carinsurance (i have full comp at 504.00 euro year)

3) is it really such a good idea to contemplate putting him on my insurance.

4) would my insurance company even let me put him on my policy as a named driver with a drink driving conviction?

i'm not so sure about letting him take my car for obvious reasons, but since it's my mother who's asked me....

sensible answers only, please.

  1. wow - i didn't know you could postpone losing your license.

5 points- careless driving - i presume they'd add that to drink driving points.

Extra cost for insurance - a lot! There's no way you can be expected to foot the bill though. You're doing him the favour so he should definitely pay, even if it was only a small amount.

Whether or not u should do it - up to you. Does your mom think he's reliable?

  2. no, you will be opening a massive can of worms and im pretty sure your ins company wont insure him anyway . no offence intended but dont be a fool.

  3. I wouldn`t get involved if I were in your position.

If you are under pressure, make him get fully comp insurance to cover to drive your car and make sure you see the certificate.

I assume he has not been to court yet so technically he is able to drive until then, but if any thing happened while on your insurance the policy would probably be void due to you not declaring the full facts.

    Not worth the risk!
