Depends on your genre and desired level of detail. Also whether some kind of skills might already be covered in player stats.

Observation (noticing stuff) and Negotiation (talking with people) are two of these kinds of skills. You might also include some kind of figuring-it-out or puzzle-solving skill for the times when the player is not as bright as the character and needs help.

I've also found a Luck stat or skill to be interesting. It makes a kind of escape hatch for those times when only dumb luck or chance can save a character or give them a clue. You might want to mess with these, see what happens.
