Pender Harbour to go all the way in the Grade 3 Dominion Day Stakes at Woodbine
The Grade 3 Dominion Day Stakes will be hosted at Woodbine on 1st July, 2012, where six runners will aim to take home the money in the race that covers 1 ¼ miles.
The line-up includes Canada’s champion three-year-old male of 2011, Pender Harbour, who will be carrying 119 pounds.
Trained by Michael P. De Paulo, the runner has an impressive record. It seems that he lost his way in the seasonal debut, when he finished an unplaced ninth in the Canadian Grade 3 Eclipse at Woodbine on 26th May, 2012, over
1 and 1/16 miles.
Redemption was not far for the four-year-old, who made steady progress, and claimed the Steady Growth Stakes at the same track on 17th June, 2012, where he was mounted by rider, Luis Contreras and finished ahead of the R. Attfield trained,
Good Better Best, over a distance of 1 and 1/16 miles.
Jockey, Luis Contreras, will take charge of the son of Philanthropist, out of mare Uproar for the second time this season. Chances are that the pair will have a successful run together this time around.
Owned by Dennis Andrews, Sandra Lazaruk, and Bob and Roberta Giffin, the runner has landed several impressive victories - which definitely raise his appeal for this race.
The 4-year-old colt won the Prince of Wales Stakes which covered a distance of 1 3/16 miles on 17th July, 2011.
At Fort Erie, he defeated the C. Brown trained, Bowman's Causeway, while the third place was secured by the R. Tiller trained, Oh Canada.
The Alan E. Goldberg trained, Straight Story and William I. Mott trained, Newsdad are co-weights, and will carry 123 pounds each.
It looks like, Newsdad, will be the tougher one to beat in this event based on his previous performances.
The son of Arch, out of mare Storm Tracer, claimed his most recent victory in the Grade 2 Pan American Stakes at Gulfstream Park on 24th March, 2012, where he bolted through the 1 ½ mile track, and defeated the R. Ribaudo trained,
Hailstone.
The line-up also consists of Stately Victor, Hunters Bay and Medidocihospisurg.
