Question:

Pendulums and the Paranormal?

First off, I'm not a believer of the paranormal. With that said, there's this one incident that bothers me. 20 or so years ago, this old man held a pendulum in front of me. He asked me to imagine its movements. Weather being forward, sideways, clockwise, even the strength at which it moved. I could even control when it stopped. This went on for a while, and was pretty evident that I was in full control of it. To this day, I don't understand. Does anyone have answers for me? I'm open to spiritualism but not religious nonesense.

  1. Any magician, even an amatuer could do that trick.

  2. I am guessing it was a magic trick, where he was leading you to think of certain movements through suggestion.

That is, he would suggest you change the direction of the pendulums movements, or try to stop it. Then he would do so with whatever mechanism he was using to control the pendulum to create the illusion.

This would create the illusion that you were actually thinking of the movements, and controlling them.

Just my guess, old men like to do those kind of tricks on kids.

  3. The key would be if this worked with the old man blindfolded, so that he couldn't read you.  Unfortunately, you'll probably have a hard time tracking him down.

  4. Yeah that's nothing to worry about; the pendulum was just responding to the energy in your body...anybody can do it if they try.

Trust me its not religious nonsense; neither is it paranormal...it may indeed be metaphysical...and most assuredly has nothing to do with the "Debil".

  5. You may have been imaginging that you were in control as he moved it - this fools a lot of people.  Or he may have been able to predict based on your eye movements what you were planning to try to make it do.  Either way, there are plenty of possible natural explanations before resorting to supernatural ones.

  6. It allows the muscles that are even more involentary than involentary muscles to react in the way you wish.

It has to do with subconscious input.

IIt does not work with a blindolded dowser. He has to see a map or know which way the pendulum is already moving.
