Peng Soon, Liu Ying and Daren decide to skip Asian Badminton Championships
The top mixed Doubles duo Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying and the prime singles shuttler Daren Liew of Malaysia have pulled out from the Asian Badminton Championships (ABC) to revitalise their energies before the Yonex Sunrise India Open starting from April
24, 2012.
The India Open is going to be the last event before closing of the Olympic qualification race and all top shuttlers, who have stakes in the 2012 London Olympics, will be striving hard to relish this last opportunity.
The World Number seven couple Peng Soon-Liu Ying has a confirmed spot in the mega event but the Malaysians want to elevate their ranking further to have a favourable draw in the London Games.
The male member of the duo Peng Soon feels they have already participated in too many tournaments and had a wonderful run in those events. He stated that there decision to skip ABC will help them to get back in shape for the India Open.
He said, “This one week will give us some time to catch our breath and also boost our preparation for the India Open. It has been a great year for us so far and we want to give one final push to improve our world ranking.”
World Number seven Malaysian pair Peng Soon-Liu Ying is in supreme touch as they reached in the semi-finals of the All England Open and finished the Australian Open as runners-up.
Now the duo is country’s biggest hope for a medal in the 2012 London Olympics and they are hoping to have a good warm up run in the India Open.
On the other hand, the second top Singles shuttler of Malaysia, Daren Liew is also gearing up to shine in the India Open as he also decided to miss ABC.
World Number 29 shuttler Daren is also aiming to raise his ranking by performing well in coming events like the India Open and Malaysia Open.
He said, “My good run so far this year has given me the confidence to break into the top 20. I may be able to pull it off if I reach the quarter-finals in the India Open and also the Malaysia Open Grand Prix Gold.”
Daren Liew showed promise by reaching in quarter-finals of All-England and Swiss Open and now he is all set to prove his mettle in future events also where all world class shuttlers will be swinging their arms.
The badminton experts advised him to focus on his physical fitness and now he has taken a short break from the arena to elevate his physical and mental strength.
