Peng/ Zheng defeat Date-Krumm/ Zhang in the 1st round – China Open 2011
Seventh seeded home team of Shuai Peng with Jie Zheng gave the crowd something to cheer about when they ousted the Japanese Kimiko Date-Krumm with Chinese Shuai Zhang in the doubles opening round of the China Open 2011 on Sunday
the 2nd of October. The two squads had toughed it out on the outdoor hard courts of the National Tennis Center in Beijing, China. The seventh seeded Chinese duo won in straight sets of 7-6(3), 6-4 against the Japanese/ Chinese mix.
Krumm/ Zhang were fort to open the initiating round of the match and they battled a deuce to hold their first serve against the seventh seeded pair. The two crews then broke each other back-to-back twice in the following four games
and by holding their serve, the seventh seeded duo brought the score to levelled terms at 3-3 in the sixth game.
From there onwards the scoreboard kept progressing on even terms first at 4-4 then at 5-5 as the teams held serve in the next four games. Eventually the scoreboard was pushed to a tiebreaker at 6-6 as they again held serve in the
last two games.
During the tiebreaker the first team to serve reeled off straight two points against Chinese pair, who eventually made a comeback and tied the score at 3-3 each with a series breaks and holds. During the following three games the
Seventh seeded Chinese couple were quick to break and hold and by doing so, clinched the tie breaker 7-3 and sealed their opening set victory.
The second set was opened by Peng/ Zheng, who speedily and successfully placed themselves on the scoreboard at 1-0. Trailing behind them was the Japanese/ Chinese mix, who too were placed side by side their opponents in the second
game at 1-1. The teams again won on alternate serves in the following two games and rounded the scoreboard at 2-2.
In the fifth and the sixth game Peng/ Zheng took the lead by two games as they first held their serve in the fifth game and in the sixth they broke their opponents.  However, during the seventh and the eighth game; Krumm/ Zhang
broke their opponents immediately in the seventh game and in the eighth the score bas again brought to a tie at 4-4 as they held serve in the eighth game.
In the last two games, Peng/ Zheng hit jackpot as they had powered through the remaining games by first holding serve in the ninth game and because their opponents double faulted in the last game, they endorsed the match point
to Peng/ Zheng which sealed their victory of the set and the match.
Next up for the seventh seeded Chinese couple is the team of Maria Jose Sanchez and Klara Zakopalova, who defeated Alberta Brianti and Alexandra Dulgheru.
