Due to the fact that Marian Hossa declined 50 million last week.

Who would you rather try to keep now? Hossa or Malone.

Malone, he seems like a loyal guy, born and raised in Pittsburgh. But it is no secret Marian has more talent.

So how do you see this situation turning out. Will Penguins give up on Hossa now that he is in Free Agency and go back to trying to keep Malone.

Or, will the Pens offer Marian a little bit more money when July 1st comes around and just be gone with Malone?

I don't think it is possible to keep both in Pittsburgh, but we CAN NOT let BOTH go to other teams.

Personally, with Gary Roberts leaving. It opens up a little more room to sign either guy to a little bigger contract. I still see the Penguins offering Hossa even more money... all though can't see how 50 million/7 years isn't good enough.

  1. Well. First off..Malone is gone..he has severed his ties with the Penguins and will not be signing with us the season (shame I liked him).

Secondly with Lecavalier  getting just $77 for nine years, Hossa's market value just went down.

IMO I think Marian would rather sign and stay in the 'burgh but he's under pressure from his agent Winters to test free agency. Winters is a greedy m'fer.

  2. Hossa did NOT decline the offer, he has taken the offer under consideration and wants to see what else is out there.  You can't blame a person for wanting to get a true assessment of his worth

  3. At this point, I think we burned the bridge of bringing Malone back.  I would still try for Hossa, I believe his agent is pushing him to free ageny to maybe try and milk some more $ out of another team.  I think Hossa understands that outside of Detroit, Anaheim, SJ, etc that his best chance to win a championship (if those are his true intentions) and reap the benefits of playing with another superstar(s) is to stay in Pittsburgh.

Nips not wanting to sign with Pittburgh if he was Ryan Malone, Troy Loney, Vern Troyer, or any warm body that could skate? Color me SHOCKED!

  4. $50mill over 7 years is plenty of an offer, and it's just showing that Hossa is looking elsewhere.  I say the Pens go for Malone now.  Hossa had said he would be willing to take that discount to stay, but then changed his mind to "test the market."  I've heard a lot of talk about him going to NYR, MTL, or BOS, while the Penguins are still interested in him as well.  I know its tough to give up on a guy that they got in a trade for 3 young players, but it was the risk they were willing to take to make it to the Cup and have a shot at winning it all.  Malone will stay if he is offered a decent contract because, as most know, he had ties in the organization while growing up.  I would like to see them keep Malone and Hossa (unless Marian comes to Boston), but I don't see them being able to sign both, along with Fluery this season--Malkin and Staal next year.  They have a lot of spot to fill and cant put all the eggs in one basket, so to speak.  Let just hope they stay competetive for a long time; this team / organization is only going to help the NHL grow throughout the country over time.

  5. I would focus my attention on Malone. The chemistry's already there between him and the rest of the team and he has potential to be the next Hossa quite easily for years to come.

  6. I never exactly was a fan of Hossa. I give the man credit for scoring amazing goals. But Ryan Malone is my favorite player on the team. So I'd say "LET'S FOCUS ON RYAN MAAAALLLOOONNNNEEE"

But, Hossa turned down the millions of dollars and said that Penguins were still going to be his first choice. So you never know.

  7. What's the worry? The Pens fans tell me that some kid named Crosby is already better than Gretzky.

  8. If I were Malone I would leave. SHERO sent him under the bus! I would not sign there if I were Malone!

  9. i dont think the penguins are really trying to keep either of them.  They have cap issues, and the 7 year 50 million contract was the best offer that hossa was gonna get from the wounded penguins.  Hossa is thinking elsewhere, and i dont see malone in a penguins jersey next year.

Im not a penguins fan but honestly i would use the money saved between roberts, malone, and hossa to go bolster that depleted blueline.

  10. Any guy who can handle a Kronwall check and then step infront of the net and try to deflect a shot into the goal using his face.......Is the type of guy I want on my team!!

Turning down 7 years and $50 million is not!

Here are a couple of examples for you from the team that just beat you in the Cup finals....

Sergei Federov...turned down a huge contract from the Wings, in part because he was stupid, in part because he didn't want to play second fiddle to Steve Yzerman any more...good by, and good luck!  The Wings did just fine without him! How did Sergei do in the playoff this year????

Brendan Shanahan...great guy, great player, great goal scorer, adds toughness to any team....left the Wings for the Rangers....good bye and good luck!! The Wings did just fine without him!  How did Shanny do in the Playoffs this year???

Mario is no dummy...you will be fine either way!  But alway, always stick with the player who wants to be there!  Detroit has signed many players to contract that were less than other teams offered....just because they wanted to stay in Detroit and play for a proven Winner that is a great organization!

With the core that Mario has in Pittsburg....you are now on the verge of being there also!  You have young tallent...you have goaltending...You have great ownership....you have tough veterans.....Sounds an awful lot like the Wings!

So see you in the Cup Finals next June!!!!!

Keep Malone and tell Hossa he can go play for Atlanta again!!!

  11. Well I don't see either staying in Pittsburgh, if one of them does stay I'd put my money on Hossa, but I don't think he will. From my personal standpoint I'd rather have Malone stay so that Boston has a better shot at Hossa XD. It doesn't seem like Maloe wants to be there anymore though, and no matter what he says I think Hossa just wants the big bucks and it's basically a bonus to be on a good team.

  12. For the sake of the team, I'd rather have Hossa.

He was really the MVP of the playoffs and finals. You can tell he wanted to win it. And Pittsburgh has grown to like him.

Malone, sure he's from Pittsburgh...but yeah, Hossa is better.

    I like Malone too though.

I heard a rumor that Hossa might go to the Rangers and the Penguins might get Jagr..again. I said RUMOR...that doesn't mean it's true but..yeah just something I heard.

........And Max Tablot said "Who WOULDN'T want to be in Pittsburgh?"...I love Max. <3333

    :)

  13. Hossa. Remember we STILL ARE HOSSA'S TOP CHOICE. He just wants to see whats out there.

Malone is gone......there's no trying to bribe him back. We told him to s***w it now he's telling us.

  14. if i was the gm for pittsberg i would rather keep malkin, stall and fleury

  15. I would rather see Hossa over Malone.  No one has ever played as good with Crosby as Hossa.  I would try to keep him but not break the bank either.  Malone is going to get an awesome offer from another team and he would be stupid to reject it.  Plus Malone has top-line potential elsewhere.  I wish him the best but I think Hossa is better for the Penguins right now.

  16. Hossa did NOT decline the offer, he has taken the offer under consideration and wants to see what else is out there. You can't blame a person for wanting to get a true assessment of his worth

  17. im a blueshirts fan and i think the better move would be to keep malone

  18. I hope malone...no hossa....no...uggg it is just to hard :o
