Penitent to meet the set precedent in the Desmond Stakes
The Group 3 Desmond Stakes has brought together eleven three-year and above contestants for the race that will be held at Leopardstown over a mile on Thursday, 16th August. Two of the contestants are racing for striking a hat-trick today while another one is seeking out for bagging a back-to-back by claiming the race today. The prize money set for the race is €37,375.
The 6 to 1 entry for the race, Penitent, got defeated quite dreadfully in the very last race that he took part in and that too was right after striking a hat-trick. One of the three legs of the hat-trick fall in the previous season while the other two are posted against the year 2012.
Kyllachy’s six-year-old bay gelding has been racing since 2009 and has never been this successful in any other season than the current one.
The bay gelding won the E B F “Proclamation” Conditions Stakes on 26th September, 2011 at Hamilton over a mile and half a furlong. While riding with Paul Hanagan, the six-year-old won the race by the margin of a slight neck’s difference from the favourite runner-up of the race, Secrecy.
The David O’Meara trained retained the composure when racing the seasonal debut on 1st April, 2012. He won the Best Odds Guaranteed At Williamhill.com Doncaster Mile Stakes (Listed Race) at Doncaster over a mile.
This time the victory was in partnership with jockey, Daniel Tudhope, and the duo defeated the runner-up, Questioning, by ¾ of a length.
Coming at terms with the third position was, St Moritz..
On 27th April, 2012, the bay gelding out of, Pious, won the Group 2 Bet365 Mile at Sandown over a mile. The six-year-old bay gelding won the race while riding with, Daniel Tudhope for a second time in a row and set Questioning as the runner-up for a second time too.
Filling in the third spot behind the winner was the favourite entry for the race, Famous Name.
Penitent will become the mount for rider, Daniel Tudhope, and the two will race from the tenth gate. He will need to look out of Takar, Requisition and Duntle.
