Penn State Icers ready to feature in the NCCA Division I hockey after the efforts of Terry Pegula
The owner of the Buffalo Sabres team in the National Hockey League (NHL) would be very proud to see his college side, Pennsylvania State University’s hockey team Penn State Icers feature in the NCCA Division I as they start their campaign in the 59th
championship of the competition.
Terry announced in a press conference, two years back that he would donate $88 million for the team and would build an ice rink in the school. The efforts begin then and the services of top coaches were reserved for their team.
Guy Gadowsky, a former Canadian ice hockey player was called by Terry to coach the side, who was one of the best in the business and brought with him some top players which lift the team very well.
The new coach came in and made five transfers straight away, few of which were Taylor Holstrom and Nate Jensen, who were both very impressive young players.
Inclusion of those five players was key in the eyes of Gadowsky, who says that Holstrom was a great player in particular and performed very well in the very first season. Other four players also helped him and that was something very important for the promotion
of the team as he said,
"It's huge for us to have those five individuals with Division I experience. [Holstrom], along with the other four guys, are going to be extremely important in helping our program make the transition from club hockey to Division I."
The 45-year-old Edmonton, Alberta resident also hailed the fact that players gave in everything for the team and their efforts should be appreciated too. They worked very hard to get where they are now and each of them had goals and dreams which they fulfilled.
Gadowsky is happy and excited for them, as he said,
"There are 16 players who played on last year's club team that will be on this Division I roster. It was basically a year-long tryout last year. They had their goals in mind and worked extremely hard throughout the season and this past summer. I'm so excited
for them. Every one of them has a tremendous story”.
