Penn State Nittany Lions’ Rob Bolden’s status uncertain
The status of Penn State Nittany Lions starting quarterback Rob Bolden is still uncertain heading into the club’s game on Saturday 30 October against the Michigan Wolverines.
Bolden suffered a head injury against the Minnesota Golden Gophers on 23 October and it is still not clear whether he will be able to make the start against the Wolverines.
Bolden has undergone several tests this week and it was recently reported on Tuesday that he failed the concussion test. The youngster is said to still be having memory problems. However, the Nittany Lions maintain that the starter has not yet been ruled
out of Saturday’s competition.
“If you ask me, if I had to make a guess, I’d guess he’s not going to make it,” said head coach Joe Paterno. “But that does not mean I know what I’m talking about. I don’t have an M.D. after my name.”
Nevertheless, the 45-year coaching veteran has seen dozens of similar injuries and is prepared to start Matt McGloin or Kevin Newsome at quarterback against Michigan.
Paterno has said that he wants options on Saturday and he could go with both quarterbacks, using them in different situations throughout the game.
Penn State had been slowly slipping this season, but seemed to regain some confidence in their win over the Golden Gophers on 23 October. The club now sits at 4-3 with five difficult conference games remaining. If the Lions hope to qualify for a bowl game
they will have to win at least two of their final five match-ups. However, this is easier said than done, as they have two games against ranked squads, two games against 5-2 teams and a game against rival Indiana.
The Nittany Lions will meet the Wolverines at University Park’s Beaver Stadium on Saturday.
