By the time Penn state was celebrating its well earned win and the Buckeyes were making their way back towards the locker room with heavy hearts, the scoreboard summarised the match by showing the following final set scores: 25-21, 18-25, 25-19, 25-9.
With their recent win, the Nittany Lions have been able to improve their overall season wins to the figure of 21. They have been able to achieve these impressive amount of wins at an equally commendable low amount of defeats in this season so far that tally
at five.
Ohio State was able to take the lead for themselves early on in the first set at 6-4. However, Penn State did not back off and made a sprint that brought the score board to show a Nittany Lions lead at 8-6. Seeing the Nittany Lions soar past in such a way,
Ohio State looked to break Penn State’s momentum by calling for a time out. Coming back, the Buckeyes were able to close in the gap by bringing the score to 10-9.
However, the Lions again extended the lead and kept the advantage with themselves at 15-12. The Buckeyes used another time out to shift things their way, after which Ohio State closed in at 20-19. However, Penn State prevailed in the end by bagging the first
set of the game at 25-21.
The start of the second set of the match was the same as the first with Ohio taking the lead at 8-3. The Nittany Lions, making use of the Buckeyes strategy called for a time out. It worked to the advantage of Penn State as they were able to close in the
gap at 13-10.
Ohio State did not let the proximity of the Nittany Lions bother them too much and were able to extend their advantage to 18-12. Penn State still found themselves far behind the Buckeyes as the set reached its final stages at 23-16.
As a result, Ohio State was able to take the second set of the game at 25-18.
Unfortunately for Ohio State, the second set of the match was the only one they were able to win as the Nittany Lions stepped up their game considerably in the third and fourth sets and claimed them as their own.
The third set was won by sores of 25-19 but it was the fourth that showed a decisive win by a huge margin. Penn State sealed the deal on the fourth set of the game by taking it a t 25-9.
Next in line for Penn State is a match against IPFW scheduled to be played on April 15.
