Penney hopeful about winless Deccan’s chances of making IPL5 playoffs – Cricket News Update
Despite losing all five games played so far this season, Deccan Chargers still have chances of making it to the knockout stage of the ongoing season five of the lucrative Indian Premier League, feels Chargers’ fielding coach, Trevor Penny.
Speaking to the media reporters ahead of winless Deccan’s return-leg IPL5 clash against Kolkata Knight Riders, at Eden Gardens on Tuesday, Penney said that they still have 11 games in bag and they need only eight wins to make it to the tournament playoffs,
hoping his side would secure those eight victories.
"I think we need eight wins and we have 11 games left. Anything is possible. I know in my first year with Kings XI [http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833], we won about 10 games out of 11 after losing the first few. So, it's possible," said the Deccan Chargers fielding coach at the pre-match
press conference on the eve of the match.
The 43-year-old former English domestic cricketer feels http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KC-Sangakkara-c1779 and his men have not played to their potential so far in the tournament.
"In Twenty20, when you get on a run, you can definitely do it,” said Penney. “We've played good cricket. It's just 95 per cent we've played well and five per cent we've let ourselves down," he added further.
Having lost all of the five matches played so far, the champions of the second edition of the lucrative Twenty20 league find themselves at the bottom of the points table. Sanga’s men opened up their IPL5 campaign with a 74-run thrashing at the hands of defending
champions, Chennai Super Kings. However, the side returned with quite improved performances in the next three games, taking it to the last couple of deliveries before losing to Mumbai Indians, and Delhi Daredevils (home and away).
However, after impressing against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780, the Deccan batsmen once again faltered against Kolkata Knight Riders at home last week, as they could post a meagre total of 126 for 7. The Knight Riders chased it down quite comfortably with five wickets
and six balls to spare.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Usman-Afzaal-c94676 Penny hoped his side would bounce back in Tuesday’s return leg match against KKR to open their account.
Asked about the wicket at Eden Gardens, the Deccan coach said, "It looks like a typical Kolkata wicket. It's normally pretty nice to bat early on, not much grass. So, could be pretty low and slow."
