Question:

Pennsylvania renters Law - Bed Bug Exterminator Charges?

I live in Levittown, PA and recently the apartment people had the entire building (8 apts) exterminated for bed bugs. They found bed bugs in 2 apts including mine and now they are asking us to pay $ 2600 each for extermination charges. Why should we be responsible, should it not be the apartment management to bear this expense? No where in Lease do we have a clause about this. What does the PA renters policy state? Should I take up this case with the lawyer to defend the charges? Any recommendations? Appreciate your expert comments...

  1. This would totally be  unfair if you get to pay the bill, as it was the landlord who called the exterminator, you didnot even get the chance to negotiate about money with the exterminators. Once again go through your leases, if they say nothing about pest control, then its not your bill, it would be paid by the landlord.
