Three games took place in Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) on Saturday, July 30, 2011. Here is a review of some of the most outstanding performances from the three games:
Phoenix Mercury vs. New York Liberty
Penny Taylor
Penny Taylor had a monstrous game for the Phoenix Mercury in their 91-84 victory over New York Liberty. Taylor scored a game-high 29 points, including 18 of them in the second half, as Phoenix snapped their three-game losing streak.
The Mercury forward also added four rebounds, three steals and three assists. She shot 8 for 13 from the field and a perfect 11 for 11 from free throw line.
Diana Taurasi
Diana Taurasi also had decent performance for the Mercury. Taurasi punctuated 16 points, including a key shot from down town in the last 40 seconds. The shooting guard contributed 16 points, grabbed three rebounds, dished out three
assists and had two steals. The WNBA seven-time All-Star pinned 6 of 6 free throws on the night.
Nicole Powell
Nicole Powell led Liberty with 16 points on a 7 for 10 shooting from the floor. The 29-year-old forward also snatched a game best six steals, four rebounds and three assists. She scored 11 of her points in the second half.
Los Angeles Sparks vs. Chicago Sky
DeLisha Milton-Jones
DeLisha Milton-Jones played one of her best games in Los Angeles Sparks’ 88-84 win over the Chicago Sky at Allstate Arena. Forward Milton-Jones chipped in with 19 points, including a pair of clinching free throws, four rebounds
and two steals for Los Angeles. The 36-year-old shot 6 for 10 from the field and 5 for 7 from the line.
Tina Thompson
Tina Thompson also gave Chicago some hard time in more than 29 minutes of action. She ended the night with 14 points, five rebounds, three assists and a block as Sparks snapped their four-game losing streak. Thompson, who has made
nine WNBA All-Star game appearances so far in her career, hit 6 for 10 from the field, including 2 for 4 from three-point range, and 5 for 7 from free throw line.
Epiphanny Prince
Chicago guard Epiphanny Prince recorded 16 points in the loss. The player also added five assists, five steals and three rebounds in more than 29 minutes.
Seattle Storm vs. Tulsa Shock
Sue Bird
Sue Bird had solid performance for Seattle Storm in an 89-72 victory against the slumping Tulsa Shock at BOK Center. The 30-year-old guard registered a season-high 29 points, seven assists, six rebounds and two steals in the win.
The 5ft-9 in guard scored 20 of her points in the first half. She went 8 for 14 from the field and 10 for 10 from the line.
Tiffany Jackson
Tiffany Jackson scored a team-high 16 points in Tulsa’s 12th consecutive defeat. She pulled down seven rebounds, blocked three shots and had two steals in the loss. The player pinned 4 of 5 free throws and ended with
6 for 13 shooting from the field.
