Pennys Pilot flies to A7 victory at Harlow
A greyhound race can sometimes seem like an air show. The dogs are like pilots, using their skills hopefully fly their aircraft towards an eventual victory.
The afternoon races at Harlow Greyhound Stadium in Essex saw many dogs-turned-pilots fly down the 415m track, with many of them finishing in fine form. The A7 race that began the 10-race
card saw Pennys Pilot (7-4) swoop in and claim a big win. After a bounding start from trap three, Pennys Pilot went on to lead third. He finished the race with a time of 27.24.
Leading the run up to third was Falkners Saturn (5-1), who placed second. Her finishing time of 27.36 placed her 1½ lengths behind the winner. Toogoodforyou, the 11-4 long shot in this
race, raced to a surprise third-place finish, proving that he was too good for last place. He was 5½ lengths out of second place with his time of 27.80.
Missing the top three by a distance of 2½ lengths was Lady Alice (3-1). She completed the race in 28.00, despite having every chance to claim a top three position. Pontiac (4-1) moved
very slowly away from the pack and bumped second on the way to a fifth-place finish. His time of 28.44 was 5½ lengths behind Lady Alice. Finishing last was 5-4 favourite, Hee Haws Pirate. Despite being 1 ¼ lengths behind the fifth-place finisher, he checked
and bumped second. He would go on to complete the race in 28.54.
Next up on the card was an A6 race that saw a fantastic finish from 6-4 favourite Lynton Angel. She led the run up to place first with a time of 26.80. Lynton Angel may have been wearing
number four in this race, but her big win put her on cloud nine. Only Think Again (3-1) finished 3¾ lengths out of the top spot in 27.10 to take second place. Third place went to Boogie On Tipsy (6-1), who bumped first, but managed a top three finish with
her time of 27.30. She was 2½ lengths behind Only Think Again.
The dogs who finished in the bottom three experienced some great difficulty in this race. Bit View Billy (6-1), moved very slowly away from the pack, and crowded first en route to a fourth-place
finish in 27.60. He missed the top three by 3¾ lengths. Ballysally Mikie (3-1) bumped first pretty badly, and lost 7¾ lengths in the process. His time of 28.22 landed him in fifth place. Finally, Smooth Royal (6-1) knocked over first, and finished sixth with
a time of 30.62.
Will Pennys Pilot be able to hang on to his title as A7 champion? Will Smooth Royal be able to overcome her rough last-place finish? The next race meetings at Harlow Greyhound Stadium
may have the answers to these questions.
