Penrith Panthers' coach Ivan Cleary selects Michael Gordon for the All Stars match
Ivan Cleary, the new coach of Penrith Panthers, has raised green flag for Michael Gordon’s participation for Panthers’ side in the National Rugby League (NRL) All Stars match, which is scheduled to take place on February 4, 2012.
While talking about Gordon’s addition in the NRL All Stars game, Cleary said, “If he is the one that gets the nod, he’ll be getting my best wishes. It’s a real feather in anyone’s cap to be a part of that game. The couple of years it’s been in, the momentum
is growing and everyone looks forward to that event on the calendar. It’s good for the players to be voted for by the public. It’s always nice for them to feel like the fans enjoy what they do and it’s a bit of a festival weekend and a good game to play in.”
According to the polls casted by fans, Gordon’s tally kept climbing its way up the popularity ladder, which meant that people enjoyed his on-field brilliance and wished to see them performing more often.
Last year, Gordon had an injury-prone year which kept him out of the major part of the season. However, the player had to undergo the knee-reconstruction surgery, in order to fix his knee. Now that his prevalent knee problem has been rectified completely,
he is all set to feature in the All Star game ahead of his debut with the State of Origin in 2012.
While expressing his delight over his increased chances of the inclusion in the All Star’s outfit, he shared that he will be more than happy in taking up the spot, if it is handed out to him. He said that it was encouraging to get to know that there were
a lot of people voting for him and he wanted them to continue doing.
Gordon is eying full back position in Cleary’s pack for the upcoming season and acknowledged himself that he is not much of a goal setter which is why he has inclination towards the former position. He also added that there are a few other contenders for
the on-field position of his preference. The final pick will be revealed by Cleary soon until then all contenders should concentrate on training hard.
