Penske Racing driver Brad Keselowski wins Kentucky Speedway Nationwide Series event – NASCAR news
Penske Racing team driver Brad Keselowski bagged a victory in the NASCAR Nationwide Series race Feed the Children 300 held at the Kentucky Speedway.
Keselowski made a tactful decision to save fuel since the final restart of the race.
Keselowski commented about the conditions in a comical way, “I like to say it's a special gauge we put in the car -- I call it an assonometer. It's my a*s. That's my gauge.”
Car no. 22 driver, Keselowski led for 132 laps in the race and stood with a lead of over two seconds. After the crash of Robert Richardson who slammed into the wall, Keselowski was back in the pits for only fuel refill. Richardson’s crash called out the
final caution of the event.
Keselowski said that the clean air at the race venue was a great help to ensure good performance from the car.
He further said, “I felt like we were pretty good the very first run. You never know when you have a race-winning car, especially when it transfers from day into night. I certainly felt more comfortable once I got clean air, and I said something to [crew
chief] Todd [Gordon] about it. You get that clean air, and these cars are just phenomenal to drive, and mine was no exception. It was really, really fast.”
Penske Racing no. 22 Dodge Charger driver pushed hard from the final green flag of the race. He gassed his Dodge to sustain his lead over Kevin Harvick and Kyle Busch. His strong effort earned him his first victory in the 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Series season.
Win at Kentucky also marks the 13th victory of his career in the series.
Kevin Harvick ended as a runner up in Feed the Children 300 with a gap of 1.180 seconds from Brad Keselowski. The five-time winner in the 2011 Nationwide Series season, Kyle Busch was less fortunate and finished third in the victory lane. Busch was 3.796
seconds adrift from the winner.
Kasey Kahne and pole sitter Elliott Sadler came fourth and fifth respectively. Sadler has now passed ahead of Reed Sorenson in the Nationwide Series points standings. Reed Sorenson was 17th to finish the race.
