Penske Racing driver Carl Edwards strong contender for 2011 Sprint Cup Chase – NASCAR news
Penske Racing driver of car no. 2 Dodge, Carl Edwards is being considered as a potential threat to the Sprint Cup Chase leaders.
Brad Keselowski finished third in the Sprint Cup Series race Pure Michigan 400.
After eight top ten finishes including two wins, he is considered the most eligible contender for the wild card entry to the chase. Presently he stands at 12th position in the drivers’ season ranking and holds the first spot for wild card entry,
ahead of Denny Hamlin.
Kyle Busch was inquired about the Cup Chase expectations and he said, “I think we've seen that here the last couple weeks and that's the #2 car. He came out of nowhere, winning that race at Pocono and surprising us all and getting two wins on the year and
now getting himself as a wildcard berth and then backing it up with a strong run this past week.”
Busch further added that he has displayed his challenging performance in this season. Busch also anticipated if he drives well in the upcoming weekends, he will be in contention for Chase drivers.
Especially after winning the race at Pocono and ending runner up in Watkins Glen, he is becoming the favourite driver for the title chase.
Five-time NASCAR champion, Jimmie Johnson was practicing at Road Atlanta when Keselowski had an accident at the track which led him into the hospital. The defending champion was hopeful about Penske team to shine in the 2011 season.
Johnson said, “I can't say that it is due to just those two events, I mean those two races definitely and being there at the test session and watching what he went through and the pain he was experiencing getting out of the car; there are different areas
I have more respect in.”
Johnson further added that he has been looking after Keselowski since the season start rather than his last two race weekends.
For Johnson the last two races were not an issue but the he also appreciated the hard work of Keselowski and his Penske team which focused to step up in the season.
