  1. Most 35mm cameras have a slot in the take-up spool where you insert the end of the film.  Look for a slot in the spool.  Insert the end of the film in the slot and snap a couple of pictures to advance the fim a couple of frames.  Be sure the film is on at least two sprockets (the little teeth that grab the sprocket holes on the film, on the take-up spool and on the center part of the camera).  Close the film compartment.  I actually haven't used a Pentax k1000 yet, but all 35mm film cameras load pretty much the same.

  2. It is actually easy to load the film into a k1000. Like the others have said you insert the leader into the tab on the take up spool then advance it a couple of frames so that you are sure that the film will wind.  Then simply close the film back and enjoy taking pictures.  On another note the manual for the k100 is available free online at the pentax web sight.  Just go to http://www.pentaximaging.com/ and search for the k100 manual.  It might help you get the most out of your camera.  They do take great pictures.  I still use mine often and its over 20 years old.

  3. Take the very end of the film leader and crimp it (bend it) so there's  a about a 3/4 inch or 1/2 inch bit that is bent. This will help the leader stay in the take up reel. After putting the film on the take up spool, give the film a few winds, while lightly putting a finger on the film to keep it from coming off. After you've advanced the film a couple of winds, it will stay on by itself.
