Pentiffic in form for victory in the Rutland Water Novices’ Chase on 28th February
The Class 3 Rutland Water Novices’ Chase is to be held on Tuesday, 28th February at Leicester over two miles seven furlongs and 110 yards. The race that has attracted a lineup of five runners has a £5, 848 purse to offer to the winner.
Showcasing the most impressive credentials for the race is the nine-year-old Pentiffic, Pentire’s brown gelding out of mare Sailing High, posted the seasonal debut victory through the second start of the year.
After failing to the fourth position in the Royal Castle Hotel Beginners’ Chase at Exeter on 1st January among the lineup of six, Pentiffic won the Equimark Horseboxes Premiere Novices’ Chase at Huntingdon, race over two miles and four and a half
furlongs.
Pentiffic was riding with Aidan Coleman and finished the race with just a head’s margin from the ¼ favourite of the race, Problema Tic.
The next two races in which Pentiffic participated had him finishing third. The competition that he has to face today is not highly intense so with some serious effort Pentiffic can get the race under his belt and record the second victory of the season.
Another hopeful entry for the race is Blues And Twos, Presenting’s six-year-old bay gelding out of mare Blue Gallery. Today will be his 2012 seasonal debut. He is a very lightly raced gelding with two outings in 2010 and an equivalent number in 2011.
Blues And Twos only victory from the four career races is in the Friends Of Wincanton Community Hospital Novices’ Hurdle on 23rd October 2011 at Wincanton, raced over two miles and six furlongs.
Riding with Jack Doyle, Blues And Twos led the track of six by 2 ¾ lengths while the 10/11 favourite of the race, Mendip Express, could not continue racing after falling during the course of the race.
His last start was in the David & Toni Eyles Beginners’ Chase on 18th November at Ascot over two miles, five furlongs and 110 yards. Blues And Twos could not race after bumping and then eventually falling down before the conclusion of the race.
The 4/5 favourite of the race, Solix, won by twelve lengths while riding with Barry Geraghty.
