Penultimate over of Mumbai Indian innings proved costly: Robin Uthappa - IPL news
Pune Warrior India’s (PWI’s) batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alfonso-Thomas-c991, gave away 27 runs in the over, which allowed
the Sachin Tendulkar led team to take their score past 150.
Uthappa stated, “When you get nine balls (including wides) in one over, you can surely make it a big over. (Kieron) Pollard made full use of that, smashing Alfonso for a couple of sixes and as many fours to help MI finish at 160 for seven.”
However, the aggressive batsman said that Alfonso’s over was not the only reason for the defeat. He claimed, “When you win, you win as a team and lose as a team. We are not pointing fingers at anyone. As a unit, we are trying hard. It's difficult when you
lose 6-7 games in a row to pick yourself up. I have been in similar situation with other teams.”
PWI have mostly struggled with their batting throughout the cash rich Indian Premier League (IPL), as their top-order has been unable to give a good start. However, Uthappa is eager to open the innings for his team and has conveyed this to the team management.
He hasn’t got much of an opportunity to win matches for his side, as normally comes out to bat when the team requires more than 12 runs per over in the last few overs. The game against Mumbai had a similar situation as Uthappa came out to bat when his side
needed a dozen runs per over in the last 43 balls. He tried his best, scoring 34 runs off 24 balls with the help of two massive sixes, but there was no support from the other end.
Although http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 won the match comprehensively by 21 runs, the Player-of-the-Match was awarded to the losing side’s leg-spinner, Rahul Sharma. The tall right-arm spinner has been impressive throughout the lucrative league and did a terrific job in yesterday’s
game. He gave away just seven runs in four overs, taking two wickets. He would have been disappointed though, as PWI lost the seventh straight game in the event.
