Penultimate over turned the game in Mumbai’s way, says David Hussey – Cricket News Update
The stand-in captain of Kings XI Punjab, David Hussey, said on Wednesday that the penultimate over of Mumbai Indians' chase, which saw spinner Piyush Chawla being looted for 27 runs, was the turning point of the game.
The Kings XI Punjab lost their return-leg Indian Premier League match against Mumbai Indians by four wickets with a ball to spare. In the match played at the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833 Cricket Association (PCA) Stadium, Mohali, the tourists needed 32 runs off the final 12 balls
of the game.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Piyush-c82317 Chawla hoping for a tight penultimate over, but rued the decision later on, as the left-handed leg-spinner was looted for three sixes
and two fours by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ambati-Rayudu-c1007.
Needing just five runs of the final over, the Peterson-Ambati duo played it easily taking singles on the first four balls before the latter finished it off with a muscular four off http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Azhar-Mahmood-c1116 on the second last delivery of the day.
Though Hussey rued the penultimate over, he did not blame Piyush Chawla for the loss, who had conceded just 19 runs in his first three overs yesterday. The Australian rather credited Mumbai’s four-wicket win to the phenomenal late dash from Peterson and
Rayudu.
“The penultimate over really turned the tide for them,” said Hussey speaking to the media reporters at the post-match press conference.
“You try and bowl your best bowler in the penultimate over… Chawla bowled well earlier. So, he was almost an automatic choice. But, they (Peterson and Rayudu) played brilliantly,” he added further.
Hussey admitted that losing such a close game was quite painful, however, he said that anything can happen in the T20 format of the game.
“It’s certainly painful to lose such a close match,” said the Australian, who top scored for KXIP with 40-ball 68.
“But, I must admit that it was a fantastic match… Almost a mirror image to the one in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820… I think we had enough… But, we all know, anything can happen in T20,” Hussey added.
Kings XI will next play Super Kings at latter’s backyard on Saturday.
