People, pets, & narcissism.....?

Question

I love animals - I love my 2 cats SO much, but I encourage them to be cats, not humans! And I feed them a good all around cat-food diet....

But what is with people who try to turn their pets in to freaky little humans? Dressing them up in ridiculous little outfits that only serves to satisfy their, and other people's amusement!

Also, do people think they are being kind to their pets by overfeeding them, and feeding them human food? I know people who have been told by the vet that their dog is obese and to stop feeding them so much (human) food....Yet they continue!! It's not only stupid, it's plain cruel! Why do people do this??

Sometimes I wonder about the reasons many people have pets.... Because it seems that they are not looking out for the best interest of their 'beloved' pet, but are instead using their pets to fullfill their own narcissistic 'needs'.....

Many people know they are harming their pets and making them obese, but they continue to 'spoil' them... Why?

I hear you.I'm fed up with finding photos of obese cats in my social network,and people regard them as funny.If they knew how bad that is for the poor cat,AND THEY CARED,they wouldn't allow this to happen.Animals can't digest the foods we eat,and some of them are even poisonous to them.

I think people who do the stuff you described want to overcompensate...maybe they didn't have toys when they were little,or they didn't have children,or their children didn't meet their expectations,or maybe it's just like you say,they are too narcissistic to realize they are animals,not people or toys,and animals deserve respect,love and care.

I have 9 cats and 2 dogs (7 of the cats and the 2 dogs were rescued by us),and I love them the most when they are cattiest and doggiest.If I wanted someone to dress up and stuff,I'd have a child...or buy a Barbie...

I happen to own 5 cats (One adult female and her 4 kittens)

and i also find it weird of humans to do that to their animals unless it is for their own good like if you HAVE to walk the dog and it is raining maybe buy a special pet rain cover thingy but just to have them "dressed for no reason other than their owners amusement like you said is pretty cruel and must be humiliating for the pets as well

I try to only feed my cat her regular cat food but sometimes when she asks for fish or meat and won't leave me alone until i give her some then OK fine. for example i was cooking some fish today and i guess she smelled it and was clawing my shorts until i gave her some. But i try not to give her that much maybe a 1"piece or something just so she doesn't think I'm mean...lol
