People's fascination with MAC cosmetics?

Question

How come whenever people go to America they stock up on this MAC cosmetics stuff? I don't get it surely its not that good , sure you can get loreal and max factor and you name it here (ireland). make up is make up ? no? Is it magic pixie dust or something?

Oh!  I love Mac.  I find the lipsticks stay on, the eyeshadows go on beautifully and don't crease or anything, and the foundation's great.  I suppose it depends on your skin, but it works for me.  I think the more expensive brands last longer and go on better, but you're right in that they don't really make you LOOK any better than the cheaper brands, you just don't need to touch them up so much.  I say if it works for you, stick with it!

I know what you mean, the MAC counter in Dublin airport is one of the busiest and most profitable MAC counters any where in the world.

I personally think their eye shadows are OK, but their mascaras are clumpy and the lipsticks do not last.  Their branding and image must  appeal to the 'wannabe D4 heads'. But I'm not that impressed by them or thier fav brand of make up

I can't comment on MAC because I've never used it but I personally find makes like l'oreal and max factor to be pretty c**p, I really do think you pay for what you get

I will never buy it again, I am sticking to l'oreal , Mac did not do it for me, the Representatives at the store were there just to sell and they really did not give me a nice treatment. The makeup did not make look as nice as L'Oreal does.

I love L'Oreal I do not know why i went to Mac.

well u can get MAC all over ireland, its not actually much cheaper in america.

i  agree, its not great,expensive and not worth it.

i love max factor, same quality if not better than MAC and the likes of it.

Mac eyeshadows are gorgeous and the colours are very unusual. If you wear make up a lot, people like to spend money on it. In my opinion the more expensive the better when it comes to make up.

ah i no wat u mean, but in fairness it is top notch make up, like its good quality. there cream eye shadows stay on all day and dont crease.... so i suppose some ppl (not me im too poor :( lol) see it as an investment, i suppose why spend 5 euro on cheap stuff that doesnt work or last??

Im doing a makeup and hairstyling course for theatre and media and we have to use mac products.. and i really think there the biggest waste of money.. cheaper eyeshadows such as isa dora and gosh are 100% better and blend with any other brand of eyeshadows,, whereas once u apply mac u have to stick with it.. no other brand  blends well with it..

I do notice a difference between cheaper cosmetics and brands such as MAC and Estee Lauder.  The make-up stays on longer and is better for sensitive skin and eyes.  This is the type of makeup used professionally.    In addition, MAC carries such a broad range of cosmetics in many colours.  They have loose powder with glitter in it, many shades of loose eye shadow, and lipstick that stays on a long time.  When you go into Boots, you only find a small selection of cheaper brands (L'oreal, Rimmel, No7, Maybelline), but Mac has its own section in Debanhams and Brown Thomas- hence, you get a better range of Mac.  People often purchase Mac in America because the prices are the same, but in dollars and this works out cheaper with the exchange rate the way it is.  They have the same selection in America.  In America, they  have MAC shops and they have MAC shops-within-shops in Nordstom and Saks.

Loreal and Maxfactor are Sh*t...clearly you havent tried MAC because you would realise the difference.

I go to Cork or Dublin every now and again to get some Mac eyeshaddows, bronzer and blusher...they are quality products! you wont get a eyeshaddow like mac by paying €5 in boots! I also use Estee Lauder foundation and Dior blusher, they look picture perfect on, especially if you know how to apply them properly...i dont mind paying for them as they last a long time and look fab!

Also the reason why people stock up is because MAC always release Limited edition make up that you wont get again or in other countries!

I love MAC, however, it really depends on your skin type and what works best for you. It also depends on the colors that the many different vendors offer . If you're into eyeliner you may find that the texture of the mac eyeliner works better  or that  it last longer. Or like me...I find that the foundation at MAC caters to more that one skin type and has many different shades to choose from,but at the same time  I am fine with going to the drug store and buying Loreal mascara for $6 ...it all about you, and what works best for you.   I has nothing to do with the price.

i personally love mac!! i find it lasts longer and has a very nice finish compared to other brands/products!! and its WAY cheaper overseas!! my mac foundation in BT2 is €33 or something like that... and in hong kong it was $200 hong kong dollars which is like €25!!
