People Flush the Congressional Golf and Country Club: Mansions turned in to Parking lots
With the AT&T National back at the Congressional Golf and Country Club, the scene looks perfect and with high profile players taking part in the event, people have started rushing towards the Congressional Country Club.
AT&T National is an invitational tournament, which means that players do not come through a qualifying process, they are simply invited by the organisers.
The event is hosted by Tiger Woods and its benefits the Tiger Woods Foundation, an organization that works for the betterment of children of America.
In this year’s championship, many renowned players are taking part, including Tiger Woods.
The tournament also honours the military and the kind of work it does. Overall, the tournament has a noble idea behind it, apart from playing golf.
The Tiger Woods Foundation works on the health and education of the children of America.
With players like Tiger Woods, Jim Furyk, Hunter Mahan and the defending champion Nick Watney taking part, surely a large crowd was expected at the Congressional Golf and Country Club.
During the opening round, people rushed to see their stars play but surprisingly there was a huge fan following for the 17-year-old Beau Hossler.
Hossler had quite a few fans out there after his magnificent display at the US Open.
The event witnessed a crowd that was larger than expected. Luckily, there were parking lots all around the golf course. Residents of the area offered parking in their lawns and mansions.
People were charging from $10 to $20 on the first day. During the US Open the prices went up as high as $60.
The county has given permits to eleven homes near the Congressional Golf club to use their yards as parking lots.
Neal Gillen a resident nearby says that these permits are must during such high profile tournaments. “A few years ago, parking was out of control. You could not get out of your driveway,” he said.
Garcia, one of the residents nearby, also offers his services to the people for parking their cars, but his aim is not to make personal profits.
“We raise the money for charity and donate everything,” he said.
Garcia has a space where 70 to 80 cars can be parked easily and with $10 charged per car, surely a fairly substantial amount is generated over the four days.
