Question

In the winter, salt is often spread in the roads to "melt" the ice and snow. Cars driving along the road cause slush to spray sideways. In the spring you notice that the grass close to the road has turned brown. Give an explanation for this observation.

Salt is a known herbicide. Most grass and weed killers contain different salts. A fine organic herbicide can be easily made by mixing vinegar, salt and water.
