There are many places like Box Hill and Keysborough/ Springvale. They are all Asian influenced cuisines and have all the fried rice type stuff. Places like Dandenong has a lot of restaurants like Sri Lankan, Thai, Chinese and Lebanese. For a nice dining experience go to the CBD where there is a resturant called 'Taxi' they have all fine dining and is located at Fed Square. There are many restaurants in Docklands that have good steaks.

Melbourne is the food capital of Australia - I am biased. You can get nice juicy steaks at any good pub as well as chicken dishes i.e. chicken parmigiana, chicken Kiev' etc etc.

Your nice rice dishes can be found in one of the 1000 or so Asian restaurants - Chinese, Thai, Japanese and Korean restaurants are big at the moment. All this can be purchased between $12 - ('parma and pot' night at the pubs) to $18 for 2 courses at most Asian restaurants.
