Question:

People in the US are not familiar with "Bonny M"?

They were famous in the 70's. I would even say, second only to the Beatles.

They had famous songs like: "No woman no cry" and "on the river of Babylon" "Belfast" and many others.

How come they never hit it big in the States?

  1. They were boney m

did they do no woman no cry dont remember that ?

rasputin - brown girl in the ring - were 2 big hits

dunno why they never made it in USA  they were a bit OTT though

  2. Did their manager make a point to market them in this country? Never heard of them and I'm into all kinds of rock and various other types of music.

  3. I think you mean Boney M.

Different musical tastes I suppose.  They did release some singles in the States but they didn't get anywhere!

  4. Maybe because they weren't all that good?

And I think you mean "Boney M"

  5. It seems that US does not get as much exposure to different music as Europe and other areas of the world-I have experienced with some music that is popular elsewhere but not in the US

  6. because they were called BONEY M ...

Boney M., with their bubble-gum infectious tunes, became one of the few Western groups at that time to become well-known in places such as Africa, the Arab countries, Iran, South Asia, Southeast Asia, and the USSR.

They were very popular with US forces in Munich area - I was there ...

but the german music scene was weak in the USA - and still is, tthe UK really rooled over everything wiht sheer volume.

My personal thought is that good as the tunes were, they were pretty banal and the US and UK were into more meaningful stuff or had better banal namds of their own like SWEET and the Archies (who can forget sugar sugar, oh honey honey)

  7. I've always lived in the US and love Bonny M...Especially "Mary's Boy Child" Christmas song.

But, they also had a very disco sound to them, which didn't last for long in the US.

  8. "oh those russians!"

did you know that the man (bobby) was so bad at singing that he was dubbed by the manager who was a white dutch man?

i like Boney M, in a 70's disco party kind of way, but there were many far better bands, so please dont say they were second only to the beatles!  they only released one album as far as i remember!

  9. They were called "Boney M" and they were never as famous as the Beatles. They had a few hits and then faded away.

The Beatles are the greatest popular music phenomenon in the history of the world. No comparison.
