I am 10w3d pregnant and for the longest time I wanted to name my first daughter Savanna with out the H at the end. My first was a boy so I couldn't use the name but I just have a funny feeling it is girl this time. But I could be wrong. Who knows.

Well every time I tell people I want to name the baby, if a girl, Savanna people keep telling me I am spelling it wrong or spelled it wrong that I am missing the H.

I don't want the H in there I like it with out the H. But they don't understand. How do I tell them that it can be spelled like that if I want it to be?

  1. It's going to be your kid ignore everyone else and spell it how you like it.. Savanna isn't that bad and out there like other baby names.

  2. well, people call their kids hanna, so why cant you call yours savanna? actually, i really like it without the h at the end! it looks much better. tell everyone else to bugger off : ]

  3. they're spelt both ways! they probably think it's spelt incorrectly but it's not as common as savannah. but with or without the H it's still a beautiful name. it looks almost the same but it's pronounced exactly the way it should be. so i don't think you should worry about it!

  4. its up to you how you spell it.

i guess you just have to thing about will you daughter have to keep spellling it to people all the time or tell them theres no h

  5. Sure you can spell it whichever way you like.... but do you really want to lay the burden of having to correct everyone's spelling of her name on your little girl?  See, it's not like Savanna(h) is an unusual name where people naturally ask, "How do you spell that?"  They just assume they know  how to spell it, because that's how EVERYONE ELSE spells it.  My advice?  Don't make things more difficult for your daughter.  Add the "H."  It doesn't change the way the name is pronounced, and it still looks very pretty in my opinion.

  6. savanna is so cute...don't bother trying to explain to others, they will accept it and who knows...it may just catch on!!

  7. There is nothing in spellings if people need to understand what is being written. Can I give you an example.

    Read fast:

Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at an Elingsh uinervtisy:

it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are,

the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer is at the rghit pclae.

The rset can be a toatl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit porbelm.

Tihs is bcuseae we do not raed ervey lteter by it slef but the wrod as a wlohe.

    Ineteristng isn't it?

This does not mean that you should not work on your spellings. Write slowly & with thinking. I bet you can improve.

    Good Luck

  8. i like the spelling of Savanna this way, it looks softer.

  9. Whenever you say the name people will always automatically assume it is Savannah. My name is spelled with 1 letter different from the norm too and I can't tell you how annoying it is to constantly have people think that you're name has a typo and having to spell you're name out every single time that someone asks for it. Even if you do tell them how to spell it many people will question you "Are you sure that's right?" Yes I'm sure! It know how to spell my own name! Consequently, I would never give my child a name with an unusual spelling.

However, I usually handle it by saying something like, "Yes that's how you spell my name. My mother liked unconventional spellings." Most people get the hint and stop after that.

  10. i think its fine w/o the H. furthermore, it can be spelled w/ one N, etc. Its your kid! Stick to your guns!

  11. Think about what Jess said. You and she once she is older will always have to correct people. Just keep that in mind. I think it looks good without the H. People are only used to seeing Savannah, so there will be alot of misspellings and questions. Just keep reminding people, It is Savanna, without the H.

  12. You can spell it however you want!!! Just ignore everyone. Savanna is really cute!! =D

  13. tell them hey its my kids name all you have to do is say it it sounds no different than savannah or tell them no u spelled it wrong and if thats how you want it i like it that way nad i had a girl named savannah i wouldnt want it to be original id want her to have a name she can call uniqe

  14. Thats my cousins name and she spells is Savanna. You spell it how you want...

  15. They're are a lot weirder names, spelt a lot weirder ways. I like Savanna and I would leave the H off too!

  16. If you don't want the H, then don't use it. Savanna looks very nice! You can spell any name the way you want to. People should mind their own business. This doesn't involve them. Just ignore them and spell it the way you want!

  17. I'd rather your spelling, to be honest. Savanna looks a lot softer than Savannah. The latter looks like you should pronounce it 'sa-van-AH'

Besides, it's definitly not as bad as spelling Briana Breighannah or Lily Lillie. Just go with your gut!

  18. If you like it spelled Savanna, spell it that way! It's your baby, not your friends! Tell your friends that you are sticking with that spelling and you're not gonna change your mind. Or stop telling people al together!

  19. They clearly don't know what they're talking about, the whole idea of you naming your child is so that they have the name YOU want to give them and is spelt how YOU want to spell it. If you wanted to call your child Bob and spell it Bill it would be your choice. I think it looks better your way, just tell them you will spell it how you wish and that you don't even pronounce the H anyway so what's the point in having it

  20. I think the spelling is wonderful.  I'm a primary teacher, and I get multiple spellings for the same names - which is GREAT!  Stick with what you want and don't listen to those who want you to put an 'H' into the name!  Savanna is beautiful!
